Literary Matches and Missed Connections

Alternately a literary guessing game and series of funny what ifs: A sample of some personal want ads written by fictional characters. Try to guess who...

This one's my favorite:

sexy hobbitses - m4w (misty mountain) oh precious precious hobbitses! we loves your chubby fingers and furry feets. we will gives you a ring. we loves you, we loves you, we loves you forever!

AND

Ever want to play matchmaker with literary characters from different books?   Flavorwire does the very thing; although, I take issue with the fictional couple of Hermione Granger and Artemis Fowl.  Hermione belongs with Ron!!!

Which characters do you think would be perfect for one another?

  1. I am clearly not the romantic type, and I am laughing at myself just thinking this about myself. My immediate reaction to the concluding question was "Nobody is perfect so nobody is perfect for one another." As my husband says, "You just try to find someone whose insanity works with your own and adjust accordingly."

I haven't read any of the Artemis Fowl books but I do agree, Hermione and Ron belong together--her craziness is a balance to his. :)

    1. I agree with your husband. No one is perfect and for someone to go looking for perfection in a mate is bound to be disappointed. I'm sorry for anyone so rigid and narrow as to be unforgiving of flaws.

  2. Great post. I can't imagine anyone being right for Artemis Fowl.

    1. Hermione and Artemis are both type A personalities; it would never mesh! Hermione and Ron are opposites, true, but at heart they have the same values so it works. They're yin and yang.

    1. Fictional matchmaking is so much easier than real-life coupling!

    Oh, that ad!

Is there a way to play fictional matchmaker with yourself and literary characters? Because I have a list of fictional men I think would be perfect for me. LOL

    1. It's easy to start speaking like him, isn't it? Scary easy.

  7. Ooh, I really like the Mary Poppins and Willy Wonka match. Though perhaps that's just because Willy Wonka is kind of similar to Bert, is who is obviously my first choice for Mary. I've actually never thought about matching up literary book characters with each other though, as Missie says, I have imagined myself with certain characters....

    1. Willy and Mary I can see going out on a date. She's practical and firm and can reign him in when he gets a bit too out there.

  8. I loved the pairing of Dorian and Francis. They do seem right for each other. I'm not so sure about Mary Poppins and Willy Wonka though. She enchants me, and he creeps me out quite a bit.

  9. I never thought about matching characters from different books. I always picture romantic connections within the same book, so this was awesome and imaginative. Thanks for sharing.
